PH1300 - Introduction to Photography Practice: Portraiture.

In this project we had to take several portrait shots in the studio, using different lights, I found it pretty enjoyable to work in the studio, all be it a tad frustrating to use some as my personal skill with lighting is not amazing.

The camera used for this project was a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon (DX) AF-S 18-155mm lens with VR lens.

REGARDLESS! Let's get this little run down started, eh?

What I like about this first one is how smooth the back ground it, it almost looks like smoke to me, other things I like how smooth the models face seems and how well the tones of shadow and light blend with one another.

This one has some of my favourite textures and highlights, while there is a lot of neutral greys in this piece I like it as you get to see so much more of the textures that are on offer, however the shot itself could have been better i should have removed the glasses from the model, the lanyard and the pen in his pocket. A mistake that will be improved for future pieces!

You ever had one of those pieces that just don't do what you want? Yeah, this is one of those cases, while I like it and I personally think that the blue adds depth and character to it, giving the somewhat heroic stare more effect when you can mail see the highlights of his skin. However, this shot could have gone better, I think had I played with the light more it could have been better.

This final one is my personal favourite of the four, I found that the shadows I produced with the lighting where perfect and the smoothness in the contrast was lovely! To say a few things I like about it is the crop, I like leaving open space in my work,  as you could have noticed by now, I feel it leaves space open for the views imagination to take place and see something better than what is there. Other things like, I quite like the mashing of the grey, white and black, i think it blends together very nicely and gives off a nice contrast, I don't feel this picture is boring to look at as your eyes just gently glide over details and take them in.

To wrap this project up, we had to reproduce a painting, matching the lighting and set up. The painting I chose to reproduce was called "The Son of the Man" which is quite famous. I found the process of creating this quite enjoyable, figuring out how to hang the camera, setting up the back drop, getting the costume! It was great fun and I will defiantly do it again, the editing for this one was done in lightroom.
